Year 12 Geographers in Harrow
Year 12 geographers visited Harrow town centre as part of the Changing Places
topic at A level which requires the study of how a local place has changed over time. The students enjoyed a walking tour to observe how St.Anne’s Shopping Centre replaced the original site of a school and college, Gold’s Gym replaced what once was an art deco cinema and the site of Harrow station is now 200m from where it’s originally site. Students conducted surveys to assess the quality of the environment, building quality and crime prevention to identify a sense of place in different parts of the town and to see how gentrification is spreading. A hearty lunch in their venue of choice provided enough sustenance for interviews in the afternoon with members of public to find out their views of how Harrow’s identity has changed over time.
