Trip to China

After arriving at Beijing Airport on the 18 October, the whole group were buzzing with excitement to begin our first day in China. After meeting our guide, we set off sight seeing for the next four days in Beijing. It is clear that the most memorable experience was seeing masses of elderly citizens involving themselves in the most vigorous exercise in a local park. We enjoyed the buzzing summer Palace, the mesmerising views of Water Cube and the Birds Nest at night. However, one of the most impressive things we spectated was the ‘Beijing Acrobatic Show’ – the most famous acrobatic show in China.

We also had the amazing experience of climbing the Great wall of China and gaining a major workout while at it!

We then travelled to Qingdao and visited numerous schools. Many friends were made while we experienced the Chinese way of education – Kung Fu, Calligraphy and Dumpling making classes. One of the group’s favourite school visits was to a Kindergarten in Tai’an. We taught the children English nursery rhymes and played many games with them. Prior to this, a delicious lunch was had with local host families.

Finally, we travelled to Qufu, the birthplace of the Chinese philosopher, Confucius. We attended the local markets, the Confucius Temple and also a lecture about Confucianism.

On 30 October, the trip came to an end. This incredible trip improved our Mandarin skills, but most importantly allowed us to immerse ourselves in Chinese culture and further our appreciation for the diverse world we live in. To put it simply, we will carry the memories of this trip for the rest of our lives.
