Sixth Form Next Steps Week

The Sixth Form engaged in a busy “Next Steps” week in preparation for life beyond Northwood College. On Monday the Year 12s visited the University of Nottingham where they attended lectures on UCAS applications, life at university and had personalised tours of the campus. The UCAS process continued on Tuesday with Mrs Thompson and an admissions advisor from the University of Nottingham focusing on how to complete the UCAS form and tackling the “personal Statement”.

Wednesday was filled with six different bespoke activities. Budding medics attended “Medics Day” with a specialist leading a whole day on the process of applying for specialised courses in Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Sciences. We also organised a visit from the Oxbridge Association who provided a detailed and thorough workshop for Year 12 applicants on how to apply to Oxford and Cambridge, followed by a specialist mock interview for each girl with feedback. On the other side of the school, girls applying for Arts and Textiles attended our “Portfolio Day”, supported by the Royal Academy of Arts, to enable them to submit a comprehensive portfolio. Meanwhile, workshops on “Wok Work” (with thanks to Thomas Franks caterers), financial budgeting and laundry skills provided some well-needed life skills.

The week ended with a combined Year 12 and Year 11 outing, organised by Mr Rogoff to High Wycombe, where the girls were treated to watching Hustle at the cinema, lunch and a bounce at Rush trampoline centre. The trip provided the Year 11s with the opportunity to become more familiar with the Year 12s that they will be joining in the Sixth Form next year and to enjoy some downtime after their examinations. It was also an opportunity for the Year 12s to enjoy themselves following a full and engaging Next Steps week.
