Science Week

Last week there was a jam-packed roster of science-based activities for girls to sign up to. With all activities sharing the theme of ‘connections’, here’s what students got up to:

Monday:
Our keen Scientists attended a neuroscience workshop to celebrate British Science Week where they dissected the brain, observed neurons and recreated them using pipe cleaners.

Tuesday:
Students from Y5-8 investigated how chemistry, physics, maths and geography act together to explain volcanoes and volcanic eruptions.

There was also a lunchtime session in which girls could create designs for a new lab coat as part of Bayer’s design a lab coat competition. Lots of interesting ideas for the theme ‘It’s Alive’- looking forward to the finished entries

Wednesday:
Our Year 12 Chemists attended A-Level Chemistry live! Lots of engaging lectures looking at how Chemistry connects the world.

Thursday:
An engineering challenge in the form of connecting different levels of pipes to form a marble run in 30 mins. Everyone working together, from Y7-11, had a ‘ball’

Friday:
Learning about connections by different forms of telephone, exploring the physics behind these methods and a form picture quiz on diversity in Science and key vocabulary.
