Outstanding set of A Level and EPQ results with over 30% of all grades achieved by students at A*

Our students, parents and staff had much to celebrate in August when our Year 13 cohort received outstanding results with over 30% of all grades achieved by our students at A*. Mrs Brown commented: “We are unashamedly ambitious for all our girls at Northwood, no one flies under the radar, and we place no limits on their achievements. They have made us so proud with their fantastic A Level and EPQ results. I am therefore delighted to announce today that nearly 60% of all grades achieved by our 2023 leavers are at A* –  A, with a hugely impressive 84% of the grades at A* – B.”

Our brilliant students immerse themselves in their subjects, always motivating and championing one another to excel, whilst being supported, inspired and motivated by our formidable team of teachers. True advocates for ‘learning for life’, Northwood teachers are passionate, innovative educators, who ignite intellectual curiosity and unlock an insatiable thirst for discovery, whilst stretching and challenging each student to be her very best self.”

With almost one in three students achieving straight A*/A grades, today’s results are a true testament to the dedication and sheer grit shown by students and teachers alike. Students studying Mathematics have excelled, with 100% A*/A grades in Further Mathematics and 82% A*/A grades in A level Mathematics (including an outstanding 64% of grades at A*).  Students also displayed their strength in numerical application and problem-solving in Computer Science, where almost 70% of grades were at an A* and Economics, where 100% of grades achieved the A* grade.

Linguistic mastery and analytical skills were rewarded in English Literature, where 72% of students were awarded A* – A grades (of which 57% achieved A* grades) and in Religion Philosophy and Ethics, where 83% of students achieved A* or A. Our students’ exceptional creative ability and technical skills have been recognised in Fine Art, where 100% of the girls attained A*/A grades. And, the results of the EPQ (Extended Project Qualification) were particularly high this year with half of our girls’ results graded at A* and 90% of the results graded at A*/A.

Mrs Brown said: “We have very high expectations for ourselves and for all our girls, which is why we are particularly proud to have been shortlisted for a consecutive year by the Independent Schools of the Year Awards for ‘Girls’ School of the Year 2023’, and why we are confident that all our students will exceed academic expectations. Our Year 13 students have worked tirelessly throughout their whole school careers, navigating the challenges of the recent pandemic with true resilience. I am delighted that they can now look forward to taking their well-deserved places at renowned institutions, such as, Cambridge University, Durham University, UCL, Warwick, Imperial College and King’s College London, where they will go on to study a spectrum of subjects ranging from Neuroscience to Civil Engineering and Marine Biology to Geophysics.”
