Never Judge a Book by its Film?

2019 will be an exciting year because some of our favourite stories will also be making their way to the screen:

‘The knife of never letting go’ by Patrick Ness will be released to cinemas in March – this is based on the first book in his ‘Walking chaos’ trilogy.

The BBC has started filming a new TV series based on Malorie Blackman’s ‘Noughts and crosses’ book and the fifth title in this series will be published this year too! ‘Crossfire’ will be published in the summer and is set several years after her fourth book in the series ‘Double cross’ and features many of the same characters you have already met. The BBC will also be airing a TV adaption of ‘Northern Lights’; filming is underway so if you haven’t already read this book by Philip Pullman, give it a go!

Moominvalley – a new animated series for Sky One – is due to start airing in spring 2019 and will use an unusual mix of 3D characters and 2D illustrated elements, to hopefully capture some of Tove Jansson’s magic. Two adaptions of H G Wells ‘The war of the worlds’ will be coming to our TV screens this year – one from the BBC and an American adaption is also thought to be in planning. August will see the cinema film adaption of ‘Artemis Fowl’ based on the books by Eoin Colfer. ‘The call of the wild’ by Jack London is coming to the cinema in December this year and also in December another film version of ‘Little women’ by Louisa M Alcott.

Do try and read the book first – TV and movie adaptions don’t always follow the story as it was written.
