Finance

We believe that financial education is of paramount importance for our students in order to prepare them how to manage their finances and incomes as they move into adult life. Throughout Year 9, all students receive an hour lesson per week studying Finance. The course aims to introduce students to the impact of finance on the economy and encourage them to consider how this can affect businesses and individuals.

The different components taught include:

Unit 1 – Finance, the Individual and Society
Role of the citizen in the UK and the relationship between society and the individual; understand tax; basics of how the economy of a country works; understand foreign exchange;

Unit 2 – Practices of Managing Money
Individual financial planning; making a personal budget and making spending choices; tools to manage money; understand borrowing options.

These two units will be assessed via two electronic based assessments The initial qualification will be graded by way of Pass/Merit.

For some students, there will then be the opportunity to upgrade the qualification by completing Unit 3 (Financial Capacity, Work and Enterprise). Students completing the full course will be awarded with a Level 2 Certificate in Financial Education (graded from A*-C), which is the equivalent of half a GCSE qualification.
