Year 9 English trip to the Globe Theatre
Last month, the whole of Y9, accompanied by Miss Stanton, the English Department, Mr Bennett, Miss McCoy and Mrs Johnson, embarked on an educational journey to the renowned Globe Theatre in London. The purpose of this trip was to provide the students with a unique opportunity to watch a live performance of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing, a play they have recently studied. The Globe Theatre, a faithful reconstruction of the open-air playhouse designed in 1599, where Shakespeare worked and for which he wrote many of his greatest plays, served as the perfect backdrop for this immersive experience.
The students were immediately captivated by the theatre’s architecture that harkens back to the Elizabethan era. The actors delivered a powerful rendition of the comedic tale of love and deception. The students were particularly impressed by the portrayal of Beatrice and Benedick’s complex characters. The famous comedy, delivered with captivating energy and skill, left a lasting impression on our young scholars.
Our trip to the Globe Theatre was not just an enjoyable afternoon out in London, but also an invaluable learning experience for our Y9 students. It brought Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing alive in a way that no classroom study could replicate. This experience will greatly benefit our students in their understanding and appreciation of one of Shakespeare’s most celebrated comedies.
