Year 7 Bletchley Park Trip

The Year 7 visit to Bletchley Park provided students with an inspiring opportunity to explore the birthplace of modern computing and one of the most significant sites in British history.

They explored the famous codebreaking huts, learnt about the pioneering work of Alan Turing and his colleagues, and discovered how early computers, including the Colossus, laid the foundations for the digital technologies we rely on today. The girls also visited The Age of AI exhibition, where they explored how the groundbreaking ideas developed at Bletchley Park continue to influence the artificial intelligence technologies shaping our world today. 

Through engaging interactive displays, they discovered how AI is transforming industries such as healthcare, space exploration, environmental science and education, while also considering important ethical issues including bias, privacy, misinformation and responsible innovation. This experience encouraged students to think critically about the opportunities and challenges of emerging technologies and reinforced the importance of designing AI that is fair, safe and beneficial for society.

Through workshops, exhibitions and hands on activities, students developed their logical reasoning, computational thinking, problem solving and teamwork skills while gaining a deeper appreciation of the vital contributions made by women and men in cryptography, intelligence and computing.

The visit brought Computer Science to life beyond the classroom, inspiring our girls to embrace innovation, ask ambitious questions and recognise that they too can play a role in shaping the future of technology.

Throughout the day, the girls discovered how codebreakers worked tirelessly during the Second World War to decrypt encrypted messages, helping to shorten the war and save countless lives.
