Year 5 Discovery Day: Library Escape Room
As part of the Y5 Discover Days, the senior library was transformed into an Escape Room, with students challenged to escape the library. Students worked in groups to crack a series of clues and puzzles, including using the Viking runes alphabet as a code breaker, searching for a skull and raven, finding an ancient book, opening a lockbox, using a UV torch to identify some magic numbers and finally, opening a treasure chest at the end with a padlock and breaking free! The literary detective theme ran through the escape room, with Shelock Holmes and Dr Watson (librarians Ms Wallace and Ms Hedderman) on hand to provide any hints and clues needed along the route! This activity was a great way of helping students learn about the different library sections, resources and catalogue, whilst drawing on their problem solving, critical thinking and collaborative skills.
