Year 10 Sixth Form Taster Day

All Year 10s arrived in school last week in Sixth Form attire to experience life beyond GCSEs. The day began with a “Question and Answer” session with the Year 12 Senior Prefects who explained how life in the Sixth Form varies from GCSEs and the benefits of staying at Northwood College. This was followed by a carousel of activities in which the girls listened to three Year 12s who presented their Extended Project Qualifications on “George Orwell’s 1984”, “Drill Music” and “Plastic Pollution”.

Furthermore, the Year 10s immersed themselves in debates organised by the Law, GEM, Art and Biomedical Society Prefects. A Liberal Arts lecturer from the University of Nottingham delivered a session on “Time Perspectives” and this was followed in the afternoon with a workshop on how to consider time when encouraging people into making different decisions. All activities were designed to give the girls a flavour of the different ways of thinking and learning beyond GCSE. The day ended with a combined Year 10 and 12 PE lesson in which the girls partook in team building and an energetic game of Rounders.
