SPORTING SUCCESS AT NWC

Northwood College have celebrated plenty of sporting successes over the Spring and Summer Terms.

Swimming

This year saw the introduction of the GDST swimming rally, held at Guildford Spectrum in January. We had a strong team and students swam brilliantly. Our U11B swimmers made all of their finals, which is a first for the school, as well as finishing 3rd overall in the GDST, and well done to Rhea, Y12, and Ishpreet, Y9, who both made their finals and therefore finished in the top eight of the whole of the GDST.

We entered the qualifiers for the National Primary Relay Swimming Championships for the first time this year. In the finals the team placed 3rd in the Medley Relay and 5th in the Freestyle Relay. We now await the overall results for the London Region to see whether we qualify for the next round. The team consisted of Elena, Mahi V, and Vaari in Y6 and Maya in Y5.

Netball

We had an excellent netball season competing in all the Hillingdon borough competitions; the Sixth Form, Y8B & Y7B Teams won their round robin competitions and Y7A & Y9A won their league finals. Y8 came third in their Borough Tournament and Y7 won their Borough Tournament. The U13 Condover Netball Team played well over the tournament weekend, placing 5th in their pool and therefore going through to the Plate Competition. Additionally, the U11 Condover Netball team qualified top four in their pool and therefore got through to the Cup Tournament, placing in the top half of the GDST schools in attendance.

Wede and Aaria K, Y9, were successful in gaining a place in the Hillingdon London Youth Games Netball Team.

In the U10 and U11 Orley Farm Tournament Anya and Bibi both received player of the tournament medals. In the U9 Orley Farm Tournament the team placed 3rd and Ella received a player of the tournament medal.

Badminton

This year’s Herts & Middlesex Badminton league has also come to an end, with some very good performances in fixtures against St Helen, NLCS, Queenswood and Watford Girls across all age groups. In the Elite Singles Tournament, Sakina in Y13 reached the semi-finals and in the U12 Tournament, Sian & Amee in Y7 also reached the semi-finals of the main draw.

Table Tennis

Mia, Anaiya S, Ayesha and Aaria represented Middlesex in The Table Tennis Zone London Finals in January and Mia is now ranked 2nd in the country for her age group.

Hockey

Emma, Y8, made the starting 11 for the Middlesex County Hockey Team. The Juniors have also had great success in hockey in fixtures against other schools.

Handball

Ruby, Wede, Aaria K and Ionie, Y9, have represented their County in a Handball Tournament this term. In addition to this Ruby is also part of the Regional Handball Team and has been successful in a number of tournaments.

Athletics

We have recently completed a successful first round of the ESAA Track and Field Cup. There were lots of excellent performances, with Mia S, Y8, scoring 15 points in the shot & Rebecca, Y8, scoring 17 points in the high jump.

Our Y9 and Y10 Hillingdon Borough Athletics teams have also done well at the Borough Athletics Competition, with Wede, Y9, achieving bronze in the shot put and Keya, Y9, achieving bronze in long jump. Zara, Y10, reached the finals of the 200m and came 4th, whilst Prisha, Y10, secured a silver medal in the triple jump!
