Police Ward Panel

On Wednesday, 19 March, Kyanne and Hanaa (Year 13) represented the local student community at the Police Ward Panel meeting. Alongside a student from St. Helen’s, they delivered an outstanding presentation, highlighting key societal issues such as shoplifting, harassment, and road safety, ensuring that young people’s voices were heard in shaping local policing priorities for the coming year. Their contributions were highly valued by the panel, demonstrating confidence and a strong sense of social responsibility throughout the meeting.

One key issue raised by both schools, based on their student surveys, was road safety in Northwood.

Students expressed concerns about parking on local roads and the challenges of crossing safely. The Police Ward Panel discussed potential solutions, such as marked crossings for students; however, this could contribute to further traffic issues. Both schools remain committed to educating students on road safety, but we appreciate parents’ support in being mindful of where they park during drop-off and pick-up and in helping their daughters develop safe and confident road-crossing habits.

This opportunity allowed students to actively participate in local decision-making, strengthening the connection between young people, the local community, and the police.

Well done to Kyanne and Hanaa!
