Opening the Junior Library Fatima Weaver-Tree Reading Corner

In the summer term 2019, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Waterstones Children’s Laureate, the Waterstones ‘League of Laureates’ asked primary school students across the country, to design their dream reading corner.  Mrs Annetts submitted the entries for Northwood College for Girls and during the summer holidays, the three winners were announced – Fatema Mithwani (Year 6) was one of the three who won and Ela Pindolia (Year 6) was highly commended for her entry!

Two amazing talented NWC girls!  The current Children’s Laureate, Lauren Child, said of Fatema’s entry ‘The Weaver-Tree’, “This (design) is so carefully considered. Fatema has gone to such effort to explain in picture form how she would create a reading corner. I particularly love that she has set no limits on her imagination and has made sure to put every detail in place. It’s fabulous…”  The prize is a new reading corner provided by BookSpace for the Junior Library plus some books to go with it.

On Wednesday 4 March Mrs Pindolia and Mr Mithwani joined 6KM to watch Fatima Mithwani ‘open’ the Fatima Weaver-Tree Reading Corner in Junior Library and, with Ela Pindolia, receive their prize of two copies each of the book ‘Flights of fancy’: stories, pictures and inspiration from all ten Children’s Laureates.  One copy is for them to keep and one to give to a friend or donate to a library of their choice.
