Making Sense of Finance for Year 9

Last term, Year 9 completed their first module in the London Institute of Banking and Finance Level 2 qualification – the award in Financial Education. The students have thoroughly enjoyed learning about inflation, interest rates and the economy as a whole.

For their Unit 1 assessment thirty-three students achieved Exceptionally High and were awarded Merits.

This term, as part of the Unit 2, the students will be learning about borrowing and the difference between good and bad debt, as well as wage slips, income tax and national insurance.

The students have really engaged with the course, asking lots of questions and relating their own experiences and observations of money matters to the practical content of this new course.

Mr Bennett and Miss Orloff who teach the course have been really encouraged also by the positive parental reaction to what is seen an important life skill, many commenting how they could have done with a similar course when they were at school!
