Year 2 Trip to Roald Dahl Museum

On Wednesday 28 January, Year 2 visited the Roald Dahl Museum in Great Missenden.

Despite a very wet start, we had great fun discovering the places in the village that had inspired Roald Dahl to write some of his most famous stories.

Firstly we visited the local Post Office which received over 4000 letters a day when Roald Dahl was living in the village, and then we moved on to the actual petrol pumps that were featured in ‘Danny Champion of the World’!

The girls very much enjoyed having their photograph taken outside the gates from the original film of ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’. During the afternoon the girls were inside the Museum, learning about Roald Dahl’s unusual way of writing his books and creating some interesting characters of their own! The girls had an opportunity to invent their own ‘Revolting Rhyme’ which they found a lot of fun.

It was a fascinating day and gave the children a real insight into how the author created some of the most famous characters from children’s literature.
