Base 2015 – regional Champions!
On Tuesday 3rd February, 12 girls from Year 12 travelled to moorgate place in London to the chartered accountant's hall to compete in the ICAEW Base accountancy competition against 8 other schools.
Each team were given a case study from an exam that an undergraduate would sitting in their final year and asked to evaluate the cases strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. We were then to provide recommendations, solutions and make decisions as how to take forward the company’s accounts in the future.
The information was very complex and the time limits were short, therefore we had to work extremely fast to complete the challenge. At the end of the day every team pitched their ideas on how best to tackle the case and the four best pitches were asked to present again to the entire judging panel (consisting of accountancy professionals and CEOs).
One of the Northwood College teams, consisting of Sofia Antoni, Dora Barnes, Charlotte Hurst, Ruhi Shah, Aleena Sheikh and Amelia Tranter, were picked to pitch again and went on to win the competition and were duly crowned regional champions.
They will advance to the national finals in June in Birmingham to compete against schools all over the country.
