On Thursday 16 November, Northwood College for Girls was under the command of two girls from Year 6: Isha Patel and her friend Thalia Al-Madfai.

Isha took on the mantle of Head Mistress (and named Thalia as Deputy Head) when she redeemed her much acclaimed prize to ‘run Senior School for the Day’ that her parents had won at an NCPA event.

The girls began their day by meeting with the Senior Management Team (who they said were really nice and funny) and a special breakfast of hot chocolate and croissants. Suitably refreshed, they went on to present at the Senior School Assembly which focused on the national problem of food wastage.

The day was crammed full with important meetings: firstly the girls advised Mr Brown, the Director of Finance and Operations, on how to best spend the school’s budget.  With creative juices fuelled by chocolate brownies, Isha and Thalia made suggestions ranging from the installation of an ice skating rink to the launch of a pet crèche in school.  Next stop was a meeting with Deputy Head (Pastoral Development and Wellbeing), Ms Ferguson, where the group discussed what makes a happy and successful pupil.

The rest of the busy day included taking part in a Textiles lesson and observing a Science lesson, a VIP ‘behind the scenes’ tour where the girls discovered parts of the school they did not know existed (secret gardens and hidden passages), very interesting First Aid training with Nurse Hickson and time with their very friendly PA (Mrs Forbes-Mitten) when they managed to write some Christmas cards.

The girls invited two friends, Ruhi Visaria and Prisha Malde, to join them for lunch in the Headmistress’s office, which was followed by a visit to Baskin Robbins in Northwood for ice-cream with Miss Boyle-Chong and Mrs Shah.

Looking back on their day, the girls agreed, “It was amazing and spectacular.”

“Senior School looks so exciting, the girls are really friendly and the teachers are really nice,” Isha explained.

“The lessons are so exciting,” added Thalia, “Mr Elliot in Science was doing an experiment with a balloon and fire!”

Highlights included: “The behind the scenes tour because we went up on to the roof! The Textiles lesson was so much fun and the very best part of the day was when we took photographs of all the activities that were going on around school.”

Our ‘real’ Head Mistress commented, “It was an absolute joy working for the girls today and I was particularly proud of how well they presented the school assembly. Jolly well done girls!”  Isha concluded, “If I don’t get a sports job, I will consider becoming a Head Mistress!”
