Year 6 Hockey Tournament

Whole School

On Friday 22 September, the Year 6 hockey team competed in the St Benedict’s tournament.

They earned a valuable three points in the first game by holding a strong St Benedict’s A team to a 0-0 draw. Ruhi M and Hareesha defended well to keep the ball away from goalkeeper, Kushi, and our midfields and forwards were denied by some good saves from the opposition’s goalkeeper.

The next  game  was  against  Queen’s  College  which  was  another  closely  fought  battle. Finding themselves 1-0 down in the first few minutes, the team worked hard to secure another three points when Tania found herself in a perfect goal scoring position and calmly put the ball past the goalkeeper.

With the team playing better in every game, Northwood College were determined to beat their next opponents, Kew Green. Player of the tournament, Isha Patel, used her impressive skill and speed to dribble around the defenders and score the winning goal.

Midfielders, Anya and Sajni Mei, worked hard to provide accurate passes for our forward, Nandana, who created some excellent attacking opportunities.

Having finished top of the qualification group, Northwood College faced a challenging semi- final against Orley Farm. Despite the team’s best efforts and some excellent defensive play from Kiera, Hareesha and Ruhi, it was Orley Farm who progressed to the final.

The Year 6 hockey team were a credit to the school - they worked hard, played well and showed excellent team spirit!  Thank you to Mrs Smith for accompanying us.
