GDST Maths Conference for Year 6
Last Wednesday 4 October, I had the pleasure of taking six Year 6 girls to the annual GDST Maths Conference at the Oxford Maths Institute.
The girls were asked to prepare a speech about their research on ‘Codes’ to be delivered to an audience of over 120 Year 6 girls from representative GDST schools, head teachers and a room full of Junior School Maths Co-ordinators – no easy task! They presented fantastically and were a credit to Northwood College for Girls.
During the day, the girls took part in an ‘indecipherable cipher’ challenge and competed against 20 other GDST school in the annual quiz. The questions were extremely demanding and the girls came a very respectable fifth, so a big ‘well done’ for taking part with such enthusiasm and commitment. I would also like to thank Mrs Smith for supporting the girls during the day.
