Sixth Form Trip to the Institut Français

On Thursday 27 April, French linguists went to the Institut Français to see ‘Cézanne and I’, a film based on the tumultuous friendship between the painter Cézanne and the writer Zola.

The film portrays how they supported each other from childhood to adulthood, from Aix-en-Provence to Paris, from rejection to fame.

The girls had the opportunity to see some of Cézanne’s most famous paintings in the making in his studio or outdoors in the mountains of Provence. They also witnessed the creative process of ‘Germinal’ and ‘L’Oeuvre’, two of the many naturalist masterpieces written by Zola. The girls particularly appreciated the scenes in Provence and their bright colours.  It was a very successful trip.
