On Wednesday 8 February nine Year 5 and 6 girls participated in the Independent Schools Cup U11’s Football festival at Lyonsdown School.

There were 12 teams at the festival and the girls finished a respectable eighth place. The girls competed strongly with the top three teams, to achieve some great results. We lost three games 1-0 in the last 30 seconds, drew three games and won four games 1-0; 2-0; 3-0.

The girls showed some very promising talent after just four training sessions with numerous top performances including Francesca Hawes in goal; Zara Zealey, Priyanka Aland and Anaiya Turabee who were everywhere in midfield; and Raeesah Nasser Sheikh, Isabella Horgan and Keira Vara scoring some fantastic goals. All this would not have been possible without a solid defence from Elena Shah and Nagad Mohamed. Well done girls.  There are more tournaments coming up in the summer, and training sessions will be open to everyone who is interested in playing football.
