ISA National Swimming Finals
On Saturday 21 January, three Northwood College girls were part of the London North Regional Swimming Team at the ISA National Swimming Finals.
The event took place at the London Aquatic Centre; the girls were very excited to be swimming in the same pool as such famous names as Michael Phelps and Rebecca Adlington.
Our first swimmer of the day was Sally Tremlett (Year 10). Sally swam the 100 metre breaststroke in the Year 9/10 category. She paced her race fantastically which is very difficult in a 50 metre pool when you are used to swimming in a 25 metre pool. Sally came third in her race, managing to beat some exceptional club swimmers from the other regions.
The next event in which Northwood College girls featured was the Year 9/10 medley relay. The team, made up of girls from around the London North region, was missing the backstroker as one of the girls did not show. Francesca Hawes (Year 6) stepped in and filled the gap, swimming with Sally Tremlett, Rahi Rajani and a girl from Gatehouse School. The girls pulled together fantastically as a team and managed to come in sixth overall.
Later on in the afternoon, Rahi Rajani (Year 10) swam in the Year 9/10 100 metre freestyle. This is one of the most competitive races for which to qualify and compete. Rahi swam an exceptional race and came in sixth overall.
Francesca Hawes was our last swimmer of the day, swimming in the Year 6 freestyle relay. The team was made up of the four fastest freestyle swimmers from Year 6 in the London North region. Francesca was given the last leg of the relay - she handled the pressure extremely well and managed to touch in second place, for the relay team to win silver medals!
It was such an amazing day in London and all three girls represented Northwood College fantastically. Well done Sally, Rahi & Francesca!
