On Friday 23 September, the Year 6 hockey team played in the St Benedict’s tournament.

For many of the girls this was their first competitive hockey experience and they played exceptionally well.  The team lost 1-0 to St Benedict’s A team, one of the strongest teams in the competition.  Lalita Patel made some crucial saves in goal whilst Reeha Meghjee, Laaibah Ali and Francesca Hawes were solid in defence.

The next game was against Belmont who were another experienced hockey team.  Although our midfield of Anaiya Dave, Serena Ediwirira, Jai Gill and Priyanka Anand had lots of possession, Belmont won 1-0.  The girls had been unlucky not to score in the first two matches and certainly made up for it in the third, winning 3-0 vs St Benedict’s C team!  Two goals from Anaiya Dave and one from Priyanka Anand secured the comfortable win and raised the spirits of the team!

The 3-0 win secured our place in the semi-final of the plate vs Abercorn.  This was a very close game with both teams battling for the win.  Fortunately, superb defending from the whole team, excellent attacking play from our forward Kiera Patel and another goal from Anaiya Dave saw us through to the final of the plate with a 1-0 victory.

We played against St Benedict’s B team in the final of the plate and, despite playing extremely well and having plenty of chances to score, we lost 1-0 to finish as runners up in the plate.

Well done to the squad – a fantastic afternoon of hockey!
