Year 12 Biology Visits
On Wednesday 13 April 2016 an opportunity arose via the GDST, for six of our Sixth Form Biology students to attend a panel entitled “The Birds and the Bees and Fertility: the sting in the tale” which took place at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in Regent’s Park. The meeting discussed whether information about fertility (especially in women) should be taught in schools and if so, how we should or shouldn't go about it. It was most interesting to hear Helen Fraser’s contribution as she was one of the main contributors.
On Tuesday 5 July 2016 a group of Year 12 girls attended an Open Evening at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre. This highly informative visit enabled the girls to have access to many of the science departments which are usually closed to individuals under the age of 18.
The tour included areas such as Nuclear Medicine, Radiotherapy, Radiation Protection, Bioengineering, Pharmacy, Medical Imaging, Virtual Environment Radiotherapy Technology (VERT) and the most impressive Cyber Knife. The girls were encouraged to ask questions and this tour gave them invaluable information to support both A Level Physics and Biology.
