This term, girls in Years 4 to 10 have competed in athletics competitions across the country. They have jumped higher, run faster and thrown further than ever before, gaining personal bests and breaking new records.
It has been a particularly busy season with the girls competing against many different schools, in a variety of events at a number of venues. Notably, we competed in events against St Benedict’s, South Hampstead
High School and St Augustine’s and participated in Hillingdon Borough Athletics, ISA Regional and ISA National Championships.
During both the Junior and Senior Borough Athletics, the girls competed with enthusiasm and energy. Sharon Yusuf- Adam, Emily Luck, Lillie Gadd and Olivia Evans all won Bronze medals. Tunmi Omoloja won a Silver medal and Dominique Olaleye and Tia Thompson won Gold medals.
In June we competed against other ISA Schools in the London North region; it was the first opportunity for some of the Junior School girls to compete in an Athletics Stadium in front of a huge crowd and all teams performed exceptionally well.
The Year 8 and 9 team won the competition and the Year 7 team came third.
Safiya Shire, Emmanuella Acquah, Jazz- Afrique Oyenekan and Sally Tremlett all won Bronze medals in their events. Jazz- Afrique Oyenekan, Sushma Nepal and Sharon Yusuf-Adam all won Silver medals. Nicole Sowunmi, Laini Djuma, Tunmi Omoloja, Sushma Nepal, Noella Gbadebo and Dominique Olaleye all won Gold medals.
Each of the girls who achieved a Gold medal qualified for the ISA National Championships. This is an extremely prestigious event which took place at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham. The British Athletics Championships were held at the very same venue just three days before.
The girls have been extremely committed this season, demonstrating a great deal of talent as well as passion. Well done to all of those involved.
