Year 7 Geography Field Trip to the River Chess

Senior School

On Tuesday, Year 7 enjoyed a day out at the Amersham Field Study Centre investigating downstream changes in the River Chess.

They measured variables including the bedload size and angularity, velocity, wetted perimeter and cross sectional area.  The girls learned how to work as an effective team using their initiative to carry out their methods at two different sites, Chesham Moor and Scotsbridge Mill.  Under the guidance of the study centre staff, they learned how to assess the river environment and created annotated sketches of the sites.

The warm weather was a bonus, not least because it helped to dry some of the rather wet socks and wellies. Back in the classroom, the girls continued with their investigation, presenting and analysing their data.  Mrs Spicer
