Year 1 Visit Windsor Castle

Junior School

On Monday 6 June, on a beautiful English summer’s day, Year 1 visited Windsor Castle.

The Royal Standard was flying and we waved at the Queen although we are not sure whether she waved back!  We had a wonderful day exploring the stone walls, looking into the dry moat, climbing into arrow slits and avoiding the murder holes!

We went around the State Apartments looking at the china plates and Queen Mary’s Dolls’ House with its real wine cellar and a working lift.  We would have loved to play with the two big dolls, Marianne and Frances, and their clothes.

Lastly, we visited St George’s Chapel and spotted the stained glass windows, the burial place of King Henry VIII and all the flags and shields.  St George’s Hall with its wonderful shields was being prepared for a banquet – it looked very inviting!

Our thanks to all the parents who accompanied us; we had a wonderful day. Mrs Delaney
