Chinese New Year Celebrations
On Monday 22 February, the Mandarin Department arranged a road show to mark the end of the two weeks’ 2016 Chinese New Year Celebrations.
Over 100 students and staff joined in the cultural celebrations. The event featured a variety of traditional Chinese cultural elements including a beautiful Chinese singing performance as well as a traditional folk dance, Tai ji, and a powerful martial arts demonstration.
There was much interaction between the performers and the audience, with girls and staff all eager to participate and practise their dance movements and handkerchief throwing skills. The participants’ efforts were rewarded with praise and encouragement from the audience.
The road show helped the girls towards a better understanding of Chinese culture and motivated them in their study of Mandarin. We would like to thank all the performers from South Bank University Confucius Institute who performed for us on the day.
