Fred the Penguin

Our Walking Bus girls had a lovely surprise last Wednesday – we were met in School by Fred the Penguin!

Fred is a mascot of the Walk to School initiative which is suppor ted by the Road Safety team at the London Borough of Hillingdon. Fred was full of fun as we assembled in the car park, tipping the girls’ boaters up and shaking flippers with the girls.

Well done to Ishani Patel (Year 1) who bravely overcame her fear of big dressed-up characters when she met Fred! A fun free service, the Walking Bus provides the girls with the opportunity to meet new friends and gets them into the healthy, environmentally-friendly habit of walking.

We teach the children aspects of road safety and the service enables parents to make a quick getaway to work or other drop offs at 8.00 a.m. The ‘bus’ leaves Green Lane car park at 8.10 a.m.

To go on the Walking Bus you must be in Year 1 upwards and pre-registered. Mrs Kelly at Junior School will be pleased to provide you with the necessary information.

If Reception girls would like to get involved they need to be accompanied by a parent.

Many thanks to Miss Sharma who has been working on this initiative.
