Beyond the Classroom

Beyond the Classroom

home

Academic study is our main priority but we also strongly believe that education does not end at the classroom and our extra-curricular programme has been developed to offer a broad choice of interests to encourage girls to pursue their passions and talents - and to discover new ones.

Extra-Curricular Clubs

Over 70 extra-curricular clubs run each week across school and our Sixth Formers partake in many in the fields of dance, drama, music, art and sport, ranging from Manga Art to Trampolining and Climbing to Creative.

Northwood College girls are encouraged to engage in a form of regular physical exercise and so Sixth Formers have one period of timetabled PE each week with a wide range of sports on offer from golf to Zumba.

Our tutorial ‘Enrich and Extend’ programme offers regular guest speakers who span across many different industries and provide invaluable insight into the wider world.

Day and residential trips contribute to the boundless opportunities on offer to our girls, ranging from visits to museums, galleries and theatres in the UK to language exchanges; skiing in the USA to water-sports in the South of France and World Challenge adventure expeditions that see the girls travel to far flung destinations, such as Borneo and Peru!

Duke of Edinburgh Award

We have a thriving Duke of Edinburgh Award programme with a dedicated co-ordinator. Open to all girls, the scheme helps participants develop the skills and attributes needed in order to become more resilient and confident adults, as well as, to develop qualities that attract both universities and employers, such as: self-belief; self-confidence; initiative; a sense of responsibility; awareness of your own strengths; the ability to plan; effective time management; problem solving, presentation and communication skills; leadership and team-working skills.

A ‘can do’ approach helps our girls to be resilient and to adapt to changing situations around them and acquiring experiences outside A level subjects enables them to shine in your UCAS personal statement.

There is never a dull moment in the Northwood College for Girls Sixth Form!
